This is a type of scar that forms due to the skin being damaged or opened, through a surgical incision. Sometimes surgical scars can be unsightly or patients wish to have these removed for psychological reasons.
Types Of Surgical Scars

These are the most common types of surgical scars. Keloid scars are one of the hardest types of surgical scars to treat. Treatment for these types of scars usually include, laser, steroid injections or creams or surgical excision.
At SO Aesthetics Clinic in Northern Ireland we can treat all other surgical scars (6-8 weeks post surgery, after a medical assessment) with the following treatment:
Microneedling SkinPen ®
Also called collagen induction therapy (CIT). SO Aesthetics Clinic in Northern Ireland uses this treatment to cause micro injuries to the skin. Nurse Susie uses the FDA approved medical device. The micro needles penetrate the upper layer of skin and break up old strands of collagen in the lower layer. This evokes a wound healing response which in turn stimulates new collagen and elastin formation. It is during the process of laying down this new collagen that it can become more organised which is what will improve the surgical scar.
